Perpetual Novena to St. Maximilian

Pope John Paul II has referred to St. Maximilian Kolbe as the “patron of our difficult century”. Canonized in 1982 as a martyr of charity, Kolbe offered to take the place of a husband and father condemned to die in Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp. Now in heaven, St. Maximilian is a powerful intercessor “working with both hands,” as he once predicted, for the intentions and needs of others.

Marytown’s Perpetual Novena to St. Maximilian Kolbe provides an opportunity for believers to call on him for assistance, both spiritual and temporal. Every Monday, the intentions of those enrolled in our novena are remembered at the community Mass, prayers and evening devotions. If you cannot be present for either the Mass or evening devotions, we invite you to join us by reciting the novena prayer when you can.

How to Make a Novena

1. During a period of nine consecutive days or weeks, try to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion as often as possible.

2. Recite the Novena prayer to St Maximilian below, slowly and meaningfully.

3. Try to learn more about the life and virtues of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and to apply his spirit in your life, especially his great love for the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

Novena Prayer to St. Maximilian

Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “greater love than this no man has that a man lay down his life for his friends,” through the intercession of St. Maximilian Kolbe, whose life illustrates such love, we ask you to grant us our petitions. (Here mention the special requests that you have.)

Grant, Lord Jesus, that we may give ourselves entirely without reserve to the love and service of our heavenly Queen and Mother, in order to better love and serve our neighbor in imitation of your humble servant, Maximilian. Amen.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, Martyr of charity, pray for us!
